Delta 8 THC: Everything You Must Know

#1: Where Does Delta 8 THC Come From?

Delta 8 THC that is sold commercially comes from the hemp plant, but not in the way you think. Delta 8 is a minor cannabinoid in the hemp plant, with around 1% of Delta 8 THC in each plant. This is a very small number, and means there is not enough Delta 8 to be able to extract it from the Hemp plant. Affordably that is. Therefore, manufacturers have to get it from somewhere else. 

Delta 8 actually comes from changing CBD Isolate chemically, into pure Delta 8 THC with almost no loss (around 5%). This means that 1000mg of CBD Isolate would make around 990mg of Delta 8 THC. Pretty wild, and means the prices of Delta 8 THC products can be made fairly cheaply. This  distillation process to be turned into a concentrated isolate. #2: Will Delta 8 Get Me High?

Delta 8 will get you high.  It is a psychoactive compound in the hemp plant.  However, it is fairly mild compared to regular Delta 9 THC from marijuana. The high from Delta 8 THC can be described as a “body high” with the potency of 70% regular Delta 9 THC. Delta 8 THC may have benefits such as pain, anxiety and sleep relief. 

Many people say it is relaxing, soothing and uplifting, without the negative side effects interference so much with overall functionality. It seems to be mild enough that the usual amount to take does not cause paranoia or rapid heart beats. 

#3: Why Is Some Delta 8 THC Gold and Some Clear and Rose Tinted?

This is a very popular question, as many Delta 8 THC products vary in color. Luckily, the answer is very easy. The process of converting CBD Isolate to Delta 8 involves heating, and the heat at which it is converted dictates the color of the Distillate. The Gold distillate requires a lot more heating to make. The reason to make one or the other is simply a case of preference. Some brands prefer gold to look like Delta 9 THC, some like clear and rose to be identified as Delta 8 THC.

Overall, the effects and benefits would be the same for both Gold and Clear Delta 8. Clear Delta 8 THC may have a rose red tint, which is perfectly ok. And in fact, even a good thing. Because some brands use bleach to make their products completely clear. Which could be very bad for you, of course. 

#4: Why Are Some Delta 8 THC Vape Cartridges Thick and Some Liquidy?

This answer is also simple. This is due to how much terpenes are in the vape cartridge, and what cannabis terpenes are used in general. Some terpenes are stronger and overpowering than others, so companies tend to use less of that terpene. This means the vape cartridge will likely be thicker. 

Some terpenes are a little weaker and need more, therefore making the Delta 8 THC in the cartridge a little more runny. Having vape carts that are too runny is a bad thing, as this means way more terpenes than Delta 8. Solid Delta 8 vape carts mean there is a lot of Delta 8 and not a lot of terpenes, making it more potent.

Each strain will differ for this reason. For example, our Binoid Delta 8 THC Vape Cartridges are 92% Delta 8 THC, with 3-4% terpenes and 4% plant lipids. This is the optimal amount for us. Some brands only have 70% Delta 8 THC. Usually the higher the better, and anything above 90% Delta 8 THC is really good.

#6: Is Delta 8 Safe?

Delta 8 is nontoxic to the human body.  Therefore, it is generally considered safe.  Still, you should start out with a small amount, and make sure you do not drive when using it as it is intoxicating.

#7: Can I Overdose on Delta 8 THC?

Because delta 8 THC is nontoxic, you cannot overdose due to toxic levels in the blood.  If you take too much delta 8, you may feel sleepy or anxious.  It is best to use a small dose when starting out to avoid taking too much.

#8: Can I Give Delta 8 to My Pets?

Pets should not be given delta 8 under any circumstances.  While it may not necessarily be toxic, it can cause unnecessary side effects.  Also, it is likely unethical to get your pet high. However, the most qualified person to speak to is your veterinarian. 

#9: What Does Vaping Delta 8 THC Do?

Vaping Delta 8 THC allows for fast delivery into the body, for effects that take place within minutes.  The effects tend to be more potent, and last for only an hour or two.  Delta 8 can be vaped in the form of cartridges, bottled vape oils or disposable devices.

#10: What Do Delta 8 Tinctures Do?

Delta 8 tinctures are to be taken sublingually.  This means they are absorbed under the tongue.  They are not as potent as vaping goods but will still be felt throughout the body.  They take effect in about an hour and last for a couple of hours longer than vape products.

#11: What Do Delta 8 THC Edibles Do?

Delta 8 THC Edibles, like gummy candies, take the longest to absorb.  It can take up to a couple of hours to feel their effects.  But their effects can last for several hours at a time. Gummies are a fun way to take Delta 8 THC, but they will creep up on you. Be careful! 

#12: Is Delta 8 THC The Same Thing as Delta 9 THC?

Delta 8 THC and delta 9 THC are two different cannabinoids.  Delta 9 THC is the active psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.  It is stronger, because delta 8 is the natural result of the oxidization of delta 9 in the plant material. Delta 8 THC is one isomer off of Delta 9, and therefore has similar effects. However, it is not as good of an antagonist to our receptors, meaning it will be less potent to the body. With a potency of 50%-70% of regular THC. 

#13: Is Delta 8 THC a Cannabinoid?

Yes, Delta 8 is a cannabinoid.  This means that it is used by the body’s endocannabinoid system to bind to cannabinoid receptors for regulatory purposes.  This is why delta 8 THC has many potential uses that are in common with CBD.

#14: Can Delta 8 Be Taken with CBD?

You can take delta 8 and CBD together.  This is not a known negative interaction.  Many delta-8 products are formulated with CBD, because the cannabidiol may make the delta 8 more calming and may double up on the possible benefits.

#15: Can Delta 8 Be Taken with Alcohol?

Delta 8 can technically be taken with alcohol, but you should be careful when combining two intoxicating substances.  Never take the two together when you have to drive or operate machinery.  We recommend taking delta 8 THC without alcohol to avoid side effects like sleepiness or other unwanted reactions.

Delta 8 may make you feel sleepy, especially in high doses.  This is why it’s recommended to take it at night when you first begin using it.  Some people may find that the feelings of sleepiness wear off once they build up a tolerance.

How much you should take depends on your unique needs and tolerance.  Ultimately, you should follow the dosing guide on the packaging.  Beginners should start with the smallest dose possible, then work up if need be. The same could be said for experienced users of Delta 9 THC. Especially as numerical tolerance will need to be learned again as Delta 8 THC products are different than Delta 9. 

#19: Can I Use More Than One Delta 8 THC Product in a Day?

You can definitely use more than one delta 8 product in one day, such as a tincture and a vape oil.  But, if you are a beginner, start with one product to get used to its effects.  You can incorporate more as needed as time goes on.

#20: Will Delta 8 Cause Me to Fail a Drug Test?

We do not recommend traveling with Delta 8 THC.  It is illegal in some states, so crossing state lines with it could get you into trouble.  Also, law enforcement may mistake delta 8 for marijuana as it is too new and unknown socially.

#23: Is Delta 8 THC A Good Option for Seniors?

Delta 8 can be a good option for seniors, but we do not suggest or recommend it. Some seniors may be uncomfortable with its psychoactive effects.  Talk to your doctor before taking delta 8 if you are a senior. More importantly may interfere with certain medications that seniors take.

#24: Can I Get Addicted to Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 is not known to be physically addicting.  Still, any substance can be addictive if the user becomes dependent on it for its positive effects.  However, most of our customers are able to maintain a delta 8 routine as needed without feeling the need to consume it every day. Just a few puffs a day, or one dropper or gummy can go a long way for both relaxation and possible relief reasons. 

#25: Will Having a Tolerance to Delta 9 THC Help Me Get Used to Delta 8?

It is likely that being familiar with delta 9 THC will give you a natural tolerance to delta 8.  This means that if you are experienced with delta-9, you will likely be able to tolerate higher doses. However, because it is a different compound, it does have different effects that you might need to get used to. We recommend starting with a low dose regardless of your delta 9 experience and tolerance. You can always go up, but you cannot always go down. 

#26: Does Delta 8 Have Side Effects?

Delta 8 is not associated with serious side effects.  But it can cause dry eyes, dry mouth, grogginess, and anxiety in particularly high doses. Additionally, some may call the body high received from Delta 8 to be a side effect as well. This body high may be intense if Delta 8 THC is used in high doses. Take precautions necessary.
