What are THCA Diamond?

THCA is a big deal in the hemp industry right now, offering the closest thing to legal THC.  Available in all kinds of product forms, like vapes, flower, and so on, its most fascinating form is THCA diamonds, aka THCA diamond dabs, which deliver the cannabinoid in an ultra-concentrated and uniquely pure presentation.

Now, with THCA diamond dabs having come to Binoid, we want to enlighten hemp enthusiasts on what this product is, what makes it so unique and why it’s unlike any concentrate that you’ve ever tried in the past.

    What is THCA?

THCA is the raw precursor cannabinoid to delta 9 THC.  It’s not a synthesized compound in any way.  THCA is the cannabinoid that dominates raw marijuana flower, and simply exists in trace levels in raw hemp.  Only when the raw plant material has been heated to the proper temperature does THCA automatically convert into delta 9 THC, taking on the psychoactive properties that cannabis lovers are seeking out – not to mention many other desirable effects associated with THC.

When we heat THCA to turn it into delta 9 THC, the chemical structure of the cannabinoid actually changes, which alters the way in which the cannabinoid is used by the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

All that being said, any product that must be heated to be consumed, such as flower, vape oils or dabs, is providing the user, ultimately, with delta 9 THC – and a potent dose of it.

    What are THCA Diamonds?

Basically, THCA diamonds are one of the many types of concentrates available on the cannabis market.  Many of us are familiar with dabs, shatter, rosin, sauce, etc.  But, diamond dabs are different, as you may have guessed by the name.  The name comes from the fact that these pure cannabinoid crystals look an awful lot like, well, diamonds, and the reason why they get that appearance is because of their purity level, which is possibly the highest out of any type of concentrate.

Diamonds can be up to 99.99% pure, and because cannabinoids have no color, flavor or aroma properties, diamonds have no color (hence their diamond-like appearance), taste or smell.  Keep in mind that this makes diamonds different from other popular concentrates like wax and shatter, which maintain a high amount of terpenes to give them a flavor and aroma.  And, because of this, diamonds on their own do not come in different strains, as they are terpene-free.

With such a high purity level comes an incredible amount of potency.  Remember that THCA diamonds are basically the raw form of ultra-pure THC.  So, dabbing THCA diamonds would give you the most powerful form of THC that exists, in theory.  This means that they would get you incredibly high, and also give you the potential benefits associated with delta 9, like pain relief, stress relief, and more.

What are the Benefits of Choosing THCA Diamonds?

THCA diamonds, as we’ve already discussed, offer the most potent form of raw THC that exists on the market.  That alone is a huge plus, not only for those who are seeking out an ultra-strong high, but for those who benefit from THC because of its potential therapeutic uses, and want the most powerful properties that the cannabinoid can provide.

Another big bonus is that because of the 99%+ purity level, you can know confidently that you have an extremely clean THCA product.  After all, you can see it for yourself by looking at them.  There are no harmful impurities that have made their way into the concentrate, and companies can’t hide fillers and additives in diamonds to get away with selling a cheap, low-quality or even dangerous product.

    How are THCA Diamonds Made?

Making THCA diamonds is more complex than one might realize, especially when you consider that the extraction process must avoid decarboxylating the THCA to turn it into THC.  So, how is it done?  The most common method is closed-loop extraction, which involves applying a solvent to raw plant material, and then filtering the cannabinoid through a hydrocarbon process.

The “closed” part of the name comes from the fact that it’s extremely important not to expose the extract to the environment at any point, as this would damage the end process.  The extract is run between different chambers, each filtering the extract more and more using varying levels of pressure and gentle heat, until what remains is pure THCA.

The other common method is “diamond mining,” which “harvests” THCA out of sauce, with sauce being another type of concentrate that’s rich in terpenes.  Sauce is also produced using a closed-loop extraction system, and the longer the product is processed, the more the cannabinoids separate from the terpenes.  The goal is to process the concentrate long enough that THCA diamonds naturally separate, and hence, can then be “harvested.”

You would think that a product that is ultimately used to deliver the post powerful form of pure THC that exists would be illegal, but it’s not.  THCA is not delta 9 THC, and because of this, it’s considered federally legal, as all hemp products are legal as long as they contain a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC.  However, a number of states have banned products containing more than 0.3% “total THC”, which’s a term used to describe the combined amount of “THC cannabinoids”, like THCA.

    These states are:

    • Alaska
    • Arizona
    • Arkansas
    • Colorado
    • Delaware
    • Hawaii
    • Idaho
    • Iowa
    • Maryland
    • Mississippi
    • Montana
    • Nevada
    • New York
    • North Dakota
    • Oregon
    • Rhode Island
    • Utah
    • Vermont
    • Washington

How Can I Use THCA Diamonds?

THCA diamonds can be used just like any standard dabs.  You can dab them, which is to flash-vaporize concentrates at high temperatures, using a regular dab rig or electronic dabbing device.  Dabbing will give you the most potent, direct hits of pure THC, so prepare for an almost instantaneous, powerful high.

The other option is to crush up diamonds and sprinkle them onto flower that you’re about to smoke or vaporize.  This way, you get a controlled amount of THC with each hit of raw flower.
