Delta-10 THC is often compared to delta 8 THC, but while delta 8 was discovered decades ago, delta 10 is essentially brand new to our awareness of the hemp plant.  It was discovered accidentally, when a group of cannabis farmers purchased new land and tested existed crops.  A new cannabinoid emerged in the analysis, which resulted from exposure to a flame retardant.  That cannabinoid was found to be delta-10, which has since been developed using much cleaner means.

Delta 10’s Psychoactive Properties

Delta-10 THC, like delta 8 THC, is described as about 70% as intoxicating as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9 THC), meaning that its effects are milder.  Both cannabinoids are known for offering a nice psychoactive buzz without taking away one’s clarity of mind.  But, most notably, delta 8 is known as an indica-like cannabinoid in that it’s more mellowing, while delta 10 is the opposite – its effects can be quite uplifting, and is also an excellent choice for daytime enjoyment for this reason.

THCV’s Psychoactive Properties

Tetrahydrocannabivarin has perhaps the most complex psychoactive properties out of any cannabinoid.  At lower doses, it acts as a CB1 antagonist, meaning that it will not get the user high, and can interfere with the psychoactive potential of other cannabinoids that it’s taken with.  At higher, currently unspecified doses, it switches over to being a CB1 agonist, offering a mild psychoactive effect that lasts for about half as long as delta 10.  Another important aspect is that THCV has a higher boiling point than delta 10 (428 degrees vs. 315 degrees), which means that it requires more decarboxylation to activate its psychoactive properties.

THC-V’s Non-Psychoactive Properties 

Tetrahydrocannabivarin is a cannabinoid that has been studied intensively for decades, unlike delta-10 THC.  Therefore, we actually know quite a bit about its dominant properties that go beyond the psychoactive.  THCV has a preference for CB2 receptors, which are cannabinoids in the digestive and immune systems, which play a role in the most prominent effects of the cannabinoid.

Like many cannabinoids, THCV has been associated with anti-seizure activity by acting as an anticonvulsant and neuroprotectant.  The most exciting research relates to its regulatory effects on blood sugar and insulin levels, along with obesity, which are quite unique to this particular cannabinoid.  And, the cannabinoid may offer uniquely potent anti-inflammatory properties, which can be traced back to its influence on CB2 receptors specific to the immune system.
