What Happens If You Take Too Much THC-O

THC-O-Acetate has been one of the big game-changers for the hemp market, being the first hemp-derived cannabinoid to be more intoxicating than delta 9 THC – about 3x more, to be exact.

Naturally, this means that it’s not necessarily unheard of to take way more than is suggested, ending up with the common symptoms of being too high.  Fortunately, as is the case with any cannabinoid, there are easy solutions to the more unpleasant symptoms of taking too much THC-O and THCO products.

What Happens if I Consume Too Much THC-O?

Most of us have, at some point or another, taken too much of certain cannabinoids that get us high, leaving us in a state where we’re almost too intoxicated, to the point where we may feel anxious, lightheaded, paranoid, or just off.  Take note, cannabinoids are nontoxic to humans, and getting too high doesn’t come with any real danger, but your intoxicated mind can feel alarmed regardless, feeling an urgency to do something to get back to a more sober place.

Ultimately, if you’ve gotten too high, the effects will not last for longer than a few hours, and during that time you can remember that because the human body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), you can actually tolerate and metabolize cannabinoids easily without any risk of toxicity.

That being said, some of the most commonly reported symptoms of taking too much of any psychoactive cannabinoid include:

  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety
  • Increased heart rate (due to a drop in blood pressure)
  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Drowsiness/grogginess
  • Feeling dissociated
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea

Tips for Dealing with Taking Too Much THC-O

If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms of taking too much THC-O-Acetate, like the ones above, here are the best tried-and-true methods that can get you back to a more grounded, “normal” state.

Solution #1: Grab Some CBD

As always, CBD can come in handy.  Short for cannabidiol, CBD is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid in hemp known for its anxiolytic effects, among numerous other benefits.

It offers a distinctively mellowing effect on the mind & body.  CBD also works synergistically with other cannabinoids, THC-O included, to reduce the more “high” effect that you’re feeling, and make you feel more grounded and balanced.  Just take a “regular” dose of CBD – 25mg-40mg – and you may be stunned by just how effective this method can be.

Solution #2: Drink Some Coffee

Sometimes, you need a cup of coffee to return to a more functional state in no time.  Caffeine, as a stimulant, awakens the nervous system, and this effect counteracts many of the effects of being high on THC-O.  It’s a very euphoric cannabinoid with a potent body high, and the caffeine can get your body more mobile again while bringing down any potential feelings of grogginess or dissociation.

Solution #3: Reach for Something Sweet

Sugar works a lot like coffee in the sense that it has the same synergistic relationship with THC-O to get your nervous system back to a more “normal” state.  Sugar can also aid you in managing the effects of reduced blood pressure, such as a feeling of lightheadedness or an increase in your heart rate.  THC-O is a cannabinoid that many people associate with munchies, so you’ll be killing two birds with one stone by also satisfying your cravings.

Solution #4: Take a Shower

Taking a shower when you’re feeling uncomfortably intoxicated can have a very surprisingly soothing effect on how you feel, and then can even make you feel more grounded in your body when you feel like your mind is too far gone, so to speak.

The feeling of running water on the skin can help alleviate the anxiety you feel by forcing you to be present with the physical sensation you’re experiencing with the THC-O compound, to get you out of your head.  A cold shower can make you feel soberer, but just be careful not to slip if your coordination is a little off.

Solution #5: Distract Yourself

If you feel like you’re trapped in a negative thought spiral, try focusing your attention on something distracting positive.  Think of a favorite videogame, your favorite album, or a movie you love, all of which you’ll be able to zero in on and tune out the anxious thinking patterns that can come with getting too high on THC-O.

Solution #6: Resist the Urge to Google

One thing you should always avoid is looking up symptoms online, since we all know that this can dramatically increase, rather than decrease anxiety – even when you’re not high.  Avoid the negative health anxiety spiral and put the phone down, trusting that you’re totally fine, and nothing is wrong with you except you’re just intoxicated by a potent cannabinoid-like THC-O.

Solution #7: Drink Some Water

One of the more common symptoms of taking a high dose of THC-O is cottonmouth, which is the feeling of dry mouth that comes from the cannabinoid’s effect on cannabinoid receptors in the salivary glands.  It’s something associated with most cannabinoids, and it’s perfectly normal.  To fix this, just drink a glass of water, which will get your saliva flowing properly again.

Solution #8: Change Your Environment

Changing your environment might be a wise choice if all else fails.  Go somewhere quiet or even change rooms in your house.  If heading outdoors for a simple walk, just be cautious and ensure you are fit enough to walk.

Solution #9: Talk to Your Friends

It can be good to speak with your friends when you consume too much of a highly psychoactive. They can help you through the high by talking about positive things, reassuring you, and giving you other things needed if the THC-O compound is too much to handle.

Solution #10: Try to Sleep It Off

Of course, one of the most effective methods is sleeping it off, knowing that any unpleasant feeling will likely be gone by the time you wake up.  THC-O’s heavy body high should make it quite easy to doze off since you’ll likely already be in a couch-locked state, so embrace the sensation and let the symptoms pass.

Don’t Let Taking Too Much THC-O Bring You Down

THC-O is quite strong, and it’s easy to accidentally end up taking too much if you’re used to a much milder cannabinoid like delta 8 THC or delta 10.  Fortunately, getting too high off of THC-O doesn’t come with any danger, and you can remedy it using very simple methods as seen above.

Better yet, Binoid THC-O Products all come with clear dosing directions which allow you to take just the right amount to avoid getting too high in the first place.
