What Does THC-M Feel Like? Does THCM Get You High

11-Nor-Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol-9-Carboxylic Acid {Carboxy-THC}, aka THCM sounds like a new discovery, but it’s a cannabis byproduct that we’ve known about since 1997.  Yet, THCM has never been isolated in raw cannabis – only found in cannabis smoke, as a biomarker to discover whether or not a fetus has been exposed to marijuana.  That being said, THCM is a compound we know almost nothing about, because it’s never been isolated, and therefore never studied.  But, you’re gonna start seeing it on the market, so there must be something to it that makes it so in-demand.

Can THCM Get Me High?

Here’s the thing – we don’t know if 11-Nor-Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol-9-Carboxylic Acid {Carboxy-THC} is intoxicating.  We know that if it is, it’s probably mildly intoxicating.  And, we know that THCM likely acts as a potentiator, meaning that when taken with other cannabinoids, it can boost their effectiveness.  So, that means that in theory, taking THCM with, say, THC-O-Acetate, could make your THC-O high stronger.  That’s why the THCM products you’re seeing on the market are typically vapes that combine THCM with other, intoxicating cannabinoids, like THC-P, HHC, delta 8 THC, etc.

What Can Influence Your THCM High?

Let’s say that 11-Nor-Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol-9-Carboxylic Acid {Carboxy-THC} can get you high.  If that’s the case, what can affect how high you get off of it, outside of its inherent potency level?  These are the things you will need to consider when taking THCM, or even taking THCM with another cannabinoid, should THCM make a psychoactive cannabinoid’s effects stronger.

#1: Your Body

We know that each person’s endocannabinoid system is unique, in how it uses cannabinoids to create specific physiological responses.  Some individuals seemingly have a higher sensitivity to the effects cannabinoids than others, which tells us that one person may get much ‘more high’ off of psychoactive cannabinoids than the next person.  Besides that, you might find that THCM brings out a more euphoric experience when you take it, while your friend finds it extremely sedating.

#2: The Amount of THCM You Take

Of course, the larger the amount of THCM that you take, the ‘more high’ you’re likely to get.  It’s suggested that if you’re taking the cannabinoid for the first time, you should start with a relatively low dose, as per the directions on the product’s label, and increases their dose gradually as they build their tolerance.

#3: Product Type

The type of THCM product that you take will definitely affect your high.  It determines how potent the high is, how long it lasts and how long it takes before it kicks in.  Right now, THCM only seems to be available in vape form, but that could change as the compound gets more popular.

  • Inhalable Products (Vapes, Flower, etc.): Vapes (disposables, carts, etc.) and flower require inhalation of the cannabinoid into the lungs, which offers a very high level of bioavailability.  Because of that, you’ll find that the high is particularly potent, and takes just minutes before it kicks in.  The high usually lasts between 1-2 hours when you use one of these types of products.

  • Dabs: Dabs, also known as concentrates, also require inhaling the cannabinoid, but because dabs are concentrated products that are very potent, and because they’re flash-vaporized, they’re in a category of their own.  Dabs are much more potent and fast-acting than other types of inhalable products like the ones we just described, and should be used only by those who have a good tolerance to the cannabinoid’s intoxicating effects.

  • Edible Products (Gummies, Capsules, Beverages, etc.): Ingesting THCM is going to give you a totally different kind of high, where it can take up to 2 hours before you even feel the effects, while experiencing them for up to 8 hours.  The high we experience from ingested products often causes stronger body effects that make us feel sluggish, and these effects may even numb pain.  Besides that, people tend to get more of the relaxing effects out of cannabinoids when they ingest them.

  • Sublingual Products (Tinctures): A THCM tincture is going to give you a high that’s sort of halfway between inhalable products and edibles.  People usually report that the high kicks in around 45-60 minutes after taking the product, lasting for about 5 or so hours.  And, its potency is relatively high, but still milder than an inhalable product.

#4: Strain Used within That Said Product

THCM vapes, dabs, and flower come in different strain options.  The strain is the plant’s cultivar, or breed, and each strain has a distinctive profile of cannabinoids and terpenes.  The configuration of these compounds has a lot to do with the effects you’ll feel, because each compound has unique properties, and the more prominent compounds are the ones that are going to affect your high the most.

For instance, indica strains have higher levels of myrcene, a calming terpene, which is why they can be sedating, to an extent.  Sativa strains are more uplifting and energizing, and then there are hybrid strains, which mix a sativa and an indica together to give you more of a balance between the two.

#5: Your Mental State

Maybe you’ve noticed for yourself that the mood you’re in when taking a psychoactive cannabinoid can have a strong influence on your high.  As you know, cannabinoids interact with the neurotransmitters in our brains, which are the chemicals that affect how happy we are, how stressed out we are, how overwhelmed we are, and so on.  Don’t be surprised, for example, if THCM causes a more euphoric high when you’re already in a good mood.

#6: Live Resin vs. Standard Extracts

We also want to touch upon the difference between live resin THCM products, and products made with a traditional (dry-cured) extract.  Live resin refers to a type of cannabis extract derived from fresh, flash-frozen flower, instead of the more commonly used dry-cured flower.  Live resin’s effects are known to be a lot more potent, since flash-freezing the hemp material preserves the trichomes that coat each flower bud.  These trichomes are rich in the cannabinoids and terpenes that are responsible for each strain’s properties.

How High Will You Get from THCM?

Ultimately, 11-Nor-Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol-9-Carboxylic Acid {Carboxy-THC} is the hemp derivative we know the least about – after all, we don’t even know if it can get you high.  But, we will learn more about it in the near future, which will allow us to answer the questions above at long last.  In the meantime, assume that the THCM products on the market, which combine THCM with psychoactive cannabinoids, have the potential to get you ‘more high’, due to the synergistic relationship that THCM shares with other components of the hemp plant
