PHC is a newer addition to the hemp market, acting as a semi-synthesized form of delta 9 THC. And, like delta 9 THC, its psychoactive properties can be euphoric, relaxing, and incredibly pleasurable in general. At the same time, as is the case with any intoxicating cannabinoid, it’s possible to take too much, and get some uncomfortable side effects. So, what happens when you take too much PHC?
PHC (hydrox4phc) is an acetated form of delta 9 THC that performs exactly like delta 9 in the body, as the acetate molecule metabolizes immediately once the cannabinoid is properly absorbed via one’s delivery method of choice. It’s also incredibly new to the market, so you’ll have a hard time finding any scientific literature on it.
But, it’s been around long enough that we’ve heard from many people who have taken it, and who continue keeping it in their cannabinoid rotation because of how much they enjoy its blissful effects.
The good news is that no one has ever experienced a fatal overdose of any cannabinoid, including PHC. Cannabinoids are simply nontoxic to humans and are not associated with life-threatening side effects. Similarly, no one has ever experienced permanent damage to their health because they took too much of a cannabinoid.
So, you don’t have to worry about that, thankfully. Still, of course, there’s a risk of side effects if you take too much PHC, or any cannabinoid for that matter, which are going to be short-lived and generally mild.
When we talk about taking too much PHC, we want to mention that there are a few ways in which the body can end up absorbing more of the cannabinoid than what a person’s body is prepared for. Let’s break down each one.
Of course, the most common way to take too much PHC is to take a higher dose than what’s recommended. This is why we always stress the importance of reading the label of the PHC product, where you’ll find dosing directions.
If you have a low THC tolerance in general, because of inexperience or naturally tolerating lower amounts than the average person, then even a standard dose may be too high for you. If you know that you have a low tolerance, consider taking just half the recommended amount of PHC instead of a full dose.
Some people are more sensitive to the effects of edibles, in particular, than others. Edibles also produce the longest-lasting effects, so any potential side effects that come from taking too much could last longer than what you were prepared for.
Edibles produce different effects from other products, because ingesting cannabinoids allow the liver to release metabolites that enter the bloodstream and behave differently from the cannabinoid itself. People can be more likely to develop paranoia when taking a cannabinoid via ingestion.
Dabbing refers to vaporizing concentrates, and concentrates are naturally going to be extremely potent – after all, it’s in the name. Unless you have a high tolerance to THC compounds, avoid dabbing, since the effects can be overwhelming for beginners.
Now that we know that taking too much PHC isn’t necessarily dangerous, let’s go over the side effects that can occur, so you can know what to expect.
It’s normal to feel anxious and/or paranoid when you’re too high, and this is true of any intoxicating cannabinoid. Scientists still don’t fully know why this side effect occurs in some people more than others, but it has to do with THC’s effects on neurochemicals that dictate our state of mind.
Two harmless and extremely common side effects of most cannabinoids are cottonmouth (excessively dry mouth) and bloodshot eyes, and neither of these side effects last beyond a few hours.
Something that beginners in particular can experience is “green out,” which is caused by a drop in blood sugar that results from taking too much of a PHC compound. This can lead to feelings of dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness, and an increased heartrate. Again, this isn’t actually putting you in real danger, so your best bet is to lay down and take it easy until the feeling passes.
A lot of cannabinoids including PHC cause sleepiness or drowsiness, and for some people, that can actually be a benefit if they’re trying to relax at nighttime. Just keep in mind that you might be a bit sluggish or lethargic, until the high wears off.
Being too high with PHC can make it difficult to concentrate, and you may find that you’re forgetting things that were in your mind just a couple of seconds ago, struggling to retain your thoughts and focus.
Although it happens rarely, you might get the shakes from taking too much PHC. This is not actually cause for medical attention, but a nervous system response to being too high.
As it turns out, there are some methods that people swear by to bring down the intensity of the high after taking intoxicating cannabinoids.
Ultimately, you can take as much PHC as you want and not worry about any life-threatening effects. But, most people want to avoid getting too high, because even the mild side effects can be unpleasant.
The best thing you can do is stick to the recommended PHC dosage on the label of the product, take your tolerance into account, and know that if side effects do come up, you’re going to be just fine in a few hours at most.
