Two newer additions to the hemp market are HXC-P and THCA – two isomers of THC, that are incredibly different from one another in a number of ways. One is an ultra-potent, semi-synthesized cannabinoid, and the other is simply raw THCA, found abundantly in cannabis. We’re going to compare these cannabinoids, because you’ll see that each one serves a distinct purpose in one’s hemp rotation, and each one can satisfy you in a totally unique way.
HXC-P, or hexahydrocannabiphorol, is a newer cannabinoid that’s been on the market for less than a year. It doesn’t actually exist in nature. Rather, it’s a semi-synthesized cannabinoid that comes from modifying HXC, or hexahydrocannabinol, which does naturally exist in raw hemp.
HXC’s effects are known to be surprisingly similar to the effects of delta 9 THC because it’s actually delta 9’s hydrogenated analog, and HXC-P is produced by adding 2 carbon atoms to its alkyl side chain, which lets the cannabinoid bind to CB1 receptors in the brain a lot more efficiently, resulting in far more powerful effects.
With HXC-P, know that you’re in for a super potent high, since the cannabinoid was specifically invented to be a more intoxicating version of HXC. It’s actually one of the most psychoactive cannabinoids in existence, with some saying that it’s more powerful than THC-P, which is considered the most powerful naturally occurring cannabinoid of all. HXC-P is probably about 10 times as strong as traditional HXC, and those who do use it say the high induces powerful feelings of euphoria.
HXC-P is virtually brand new, which means that clinical researchers haven’t actually explored its potential therapeutic benefits. However, since we know that HXC-P is a stronger form of hexahydrocannabinol, you can expect that any benefits you get from HXC, you’ll just experience more strongly when you take HXC-P.
HXC almost perfectly matches delta 9 in terms of possible benefits, as far as we know, and which many avid users will gladly back up. So, HXC-P would simply offer those potential benefits even more strongly.
HXC-P is sought-after primarily for recreational purposes, as the potency of its euphoric high is very much in demand.
HXC-P is a cannabinoid that’s federally legal, because it fully complies with the 2018 Farm Bill, which declared all hemp derivatives federally legal if they contain no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC. But, 19 states have prohibited all psychoactive cannabinoids, and because HXC-P falls into that category, it’s banned in:
THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) refers to the the raw, acidic cannabinoid precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which exists only in raw cannabis material. As the cannabinoid isn’t yet decarboxylated (a process of heating THCA to a specific temperature to convert it into delta 9), its properties are completely different from those of delta 9. Once THCA is decarboxylated, it takes on new properties, including psychoactive effects. Hemp yields about 0.3% THCA, while in marijuana, it’s the dominant cannabinoid.
When it’s consumed as a raw cannabinoid, THCA does not have the ability to get you high. Raw cannabinoids do not attach to CB1 receptors that cause intoxication. But, products that must be decarboxylated to be consumed, like THCA vapes or flower, allow THCA to convert into delta 9 THC, which means you’re then consuming delta 9 rather than THCA. And, as we know, delta 9 is a very intoxicating cannabinoid.
Like all raw cannabinoid precursors, THCA does not attach to CB1 and CB2 receptors, since that’s only possible with post-decarboxylated cannabinoids. But, THCA is known to regulate COX-1 and COX-2, two enzymes that play an important role in the body. COX-1 and COX-2 are responsible for the release of prostaglandins.
THCA also has a regulatory effects on two proteins made by the body: TRPA1 and TRPV2, which act as channels for our body’s endocannabinoids.
Another function of THCA is that it’s shown to increase anandamide uptake. Anandamide is a cannabinoid produced within the body that has a strong influence on mood regulation.
When left raw, THCA is not psychoactive, but it can be used therapeutically. Like we said, it offers anti-inflammatory properties, and can help with sleep and mood, while being a powerful antioxidant. But, when THCA comes in forms like dabs, flower, and vapes, it’s used because the THCA converts into delta 9 THC. So, a product like THCA flower is used recreationally, because it behaves just like cannabis.
THCA is a legal cannabinoid under federal law, as the United States only bans products containing more than 0.3% delta 9 THC, and THCA is technically not classified as delta 9. This means that THCA flower and similar products are legal even though they become high in delta 9 THC when they’re consumed. Still, 4 out of 50 states have banned products that contain more than 0.3% “total” THC – in other words, a combination of delta 9 and THCA – and so THCA products are banned in those states, which are:
HXC-P and THCA are quite different from one another, as you can see. They both offer a unique way to get high, legally, but through entirely different means, as one cannabinoid is designed to be highly potent, and the other already exists in nature, and converts into delta 9 THC. So, consider how you want to experience the psychoactive side of hemp, and choose which one speaks more to your particular goals and preferences from Binoid.
