As we continue seeing an endless wave of newly discovered cannabinoids hitting the hemp market, tetrahydrocannabutol (THC-B), since 2019, is beginning to make its way onto the market, giving hemp enthusiasts the chance to experience its effects for themselves. Now, the question is, how well does this compound matchup against one that has been around for a long time, but has just also recently hit the market: tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)?
Tetrahydrocannabutol is part of over 100 cannabinoids that naturally occurs in the hemp plant. An extremely trace cannabinoid at that, THC-B was discovered initially in late 2019. In fact, it was unearthed along with tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P) by a team of Italian researchers analyzing the hemp plant’s chemical composition through liquid chromatography.
THC-B is on a level playing field with THC-P, a cannabinoid considered to be the most psychoactive in all of cannabis. Still, we don’t yet know the specifics of the high in terms of its dominant effects – for instance, whether it creates a feeling of euphoria, whether it’s associated with couchlock, etc.
Researchers who separated tetrahydrocannabutol did test it out in animal trials to get a basic understanding of what viable benefits there might be. They showed how it created some of the mimicked effects in mice as it did in humans.
Essentially, if you’re looking for a cannabinoid that’s simply strong as THC-P and is very similar in effects but less harsh on the throat, then go for THC-B.
THC-B is also considered federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. But, it’s a banned cannabinoid if you live in any of the following states below:

Tetrahydrocannabivarin is protected under the 2018 Farm Bill, thus allowing it to be legalized under federal law. Still, these states below likely prohibit sales of THCV products:
