Two of the newest hemp derivatives on the block are THCM and THCjd – two members of the THC family that are quite misunderstood, as there’s virtually no research about them out there for us to access. Still, thankfully, we know enough about both of these exciting hemp derivatives, to share everything there is to know about them so far, and compare them to one another.
As of now, we don’t actually know about THCM’s psychoactive properties. Whether or not the cannabinoid is capable of getting users high has yet to be confirmed, but what we do know is that if it is psychoactive, the effects are likely to be extremely mild. And, without knowing whether or not it’s psychoactive, we don’t know if the potential high would be more euphoric, uplifting, sedating, etc.
THCM is extremely rare on the market right now, and for the time-being, we’ve only seen it in vaping products, in combination with other cannabinoids that do deliver well-known intoxicating effects. Because of that, it’s clear that at least for now, THCM’s purpose is to potentiate the effects of other cannabinoids, and enhance the entourage effect.
THCM is considered a fully legal cannabinoid under federal law, when it comes from the hemp plant, because of the Farm Bill, which passed in 2018, and legalized any hemp product that contains a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC. THCM may sound a lot like delta 9 THC in its name, but ultimately, it’s a different compound.
One thing that you need to know, however, is that 19 states have banned all THC cannabinoids, and THCM would fall into that category. So, you should assume that THCM is illegal in:
THCjd stands for “tetrahydrocannabioctyl”, and it’s a cannabinoid with next to no research-based information behind it so far, similarly to THCM. But, we do know that it has an 8-link alkyl side-chain, which determines the strength of its intoxicating properties, and essentially tells us that it’s a very potent cannabinoid, much like THCM.
There’s still some argument about how psychoactive THC-JD is, as some say that it’s 19 times more potent than delta 9 THC, and some say it’s less potent than THC-P. What we do know is that those who have used THCjd have said that it’s extremely soothing and sedating. THCjd may cause extremely couchlock, so keep that in mind before taking it.
Right now, the value of THCjd that we know of is recreational, so we can assume that those buying it are looking to enjoy a particularly powerful high.
THCjd is federally legal like THCM because it complies with the 2018 Farm Bill. But, it’s banned in the same states as THCM, again because of its THC association.
THCM and THCjd are both so new that we don’t know a lot about how they can affect us. But, they are both derivatives of hemp, and we know that hemp’s compounds are nontoxic, and generally come with a surprising number of benefits.
That being said, just keep an eye out for both of these compounds as they become more prominent on the market in the coming months. And, don’t be surprised to see THCM paired with THCjd, thanks to its possible use as a potentiator for cannabinoids like THCjd and others.
